The well advertised recent airport security breaches in Sydney and Melbourne, and the easy theft of laptops and other highly classified information from Government and law enforcement offices, are a clear indication that the training provided to X-Ray Screeners and Checkpoint Security operators should be improved with the utmost urgency.

Other serious breaches of security in Government Departments and Law Enforcement Agencies reveal a chronic lack of quality training which needs to be rectified.   It is very clear that the abysmal level of the quality of our security had never been seriously tested and therefore problems remained undetected--it is being tested now!

• Poor support for airport security officers and checkpoint security.  These officers are regular victims of abuse and physical attacks by passengers and visitors--this abuse resulting in chronic stress, alcoholism and drug abuse.
